About company
SLOVNAFT, a.s., is a refinery-petrochemical company with an annual processing of 5.5 - 6 million tons of crude oil.
In addition to the production, storage, distribution and wholesale of petroleum products, company has the largest retail network in the Slovak Republic, focused on sale of motor fuels and lubricants and provision of a wide range of services to motorists.
After intensive modernization, the SLOVNAFT, a.s. refinery is characterized by a high degree of conversion and flexibility, thanks to which it is currently one of the three most modern refineries in Europe.
Background
SLOVNAFT, a.s., within preventive maintenance related to physicochemical measurements and chromatographic analyzes, had to solve several complex problems. One of them was a need to identify device and its current state, physically at the place of its function. Due to the number and rapid rotation of mainly explosive detectors and personal detectors, another serious problem was the inconsistent condition of individual registration databases, managed partly by the owner of the equipment and partly by the implementers of maintenance interventions. The main problems of the current situation were:
• missing/duplicate of records in register,
• absence of calibration tests on "forgotten" devices,
• non-unified calibration certificates,
• expired calibration gases.
Objectives
The main goal of the solution was to make an extension of the current EAM system in the form of application for portable devices capable of communication with ID tags. The solution covered the following areas:
• unambiguous identification of devices by means of labels,
• generation of unified calibration protocols with emphasis on logical connection according to comprehensive rules,
• support for the management of calibration gases and monitoring of their expiration,
• support for entering measured values using a mobile device.
Solution
The solution offered by our company is based on the robust XMatik® platform, suitable for explosive environments.
During implementation, each device was equipped with a label with its own identifier. Thanks to the application, the recording of each inspection/identified discrepancy in the given device was ensured. The solution enabled the identification of the device status directly in the technology without the need to connect to the information system.
The Metrology module managed planning of calibrations and solved data validation. At the same time, it ensured registration of calibration gases and monitoring of its validity. The solution enabled generation of review for manager for analysis of the current state of implementation of plan.
Recording the beginning and end of the work also ensured registration of total working time of the contractor, which enabled better planning of work capacities.
Technologies
XMatik® product has been continuously developed in the SLOVNAFT environment for 25 years. Nevertheless, it is not an outdated solution, as the technology platform itself has also undergone improvements. During that time, solution was gradually enriched with new modules, new areas and processes were supported. Due to the high degree of adaptability and scalability, we supplied SLOVNAFT with a tool that can respond quickly to specific requirements, at a lower price than most competing enterprise products.
