XMtrade®/ISOT to support 15-minute trading on the day-ahead market

The planned introduction of a 15-minute trading interval on the single-day-ahead electricity market in Europe (SDAC – Single Day-Ahead Coupling) presents a new challenge, namely the development of a software solution to ensure the organisation of the day-ahead electricity market with support for a 15-minute time interval. In Slovakia, trading is carried out through the electricity market organiser, OKTE, a.s. The project's launch date is set for September 30, 2025, with the first trading day scheduled for October 1, 2025.
The current period is being used for extensive testing of the IT solution to ensure a smooth transition to the new trading interval. This will allow market participants to better adjust their trading position not only in the granularity of 60-minute products, but also 15-minute products, which will be in operation in parallel. A mechanism at the level of the central matching algorithm, the so-called "cross-product matching", will allow orders with different trading period lengths to be matched with each other, thereby increasing liquidity across individual trading intervals.
This project presents another opportunity for us to participate in a fundamental change in electricity trading on the short-term market, which will bring new opportunities for market participants and ultimately increase the stability of the electricity system operation.
